The Museum Kurhaus Kleve, one of the important art museums in North Rhine-Westphalia, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2022. This provides a welcome occasion to take stock of the diversity of contemporary art with regard to the past exhibition history, the acquisitions associated with it, and especially the artists involved. Schatzhaus & Labor" presents a multi-layered exhibition organism that, by concentrating on 25 positions, tells a multifaceted story of the identity of the Museum Kurhaus Kleve. They are complemented by 5 new artistic positions never shown in Kleve before, which give new impulses and act like mirrors of our present time.

The interweaving of memory and new beginnings is the leitmotif of the selection as well as a questioning of the possibilities of artistic activity in general. For in a world that is inevitably moving in catastrophe mode, the freedom and intensity of art remain indispensable stimuli of spiritual survival.

It is precisely at this interface that the Museum Kurhaus Kleve has located itself for a quarter of a century and hopefully will continue to do so in the future: as a treasure house of cultural preservation and a laboratory of innovative designs.
